The College of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (CSTEM) is one of the most exciting places to be a student at Eastern Washington University. CSTEM prepares students to succeed in fields such as Biology, Chemistry, Computer Programming, Data Science, Geoscience, Web Design and Computational Mathematics.
The Department of Mathematics offers a variety of degrees including Bachelor’s Degrees in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Data Science and a Master’s Degree in Applied Mathematics.

The standard workload for this position is split as 80% teaching, 20% research and service. Teaching involves 36 credits per academic year as well as mentoring and advising students on academic research and academic success. The candidate should be able to teach statistics courses at multiple levels. Research involves maintaining a rigorous program of scholarly activity appropriate to the field of statistics and in keeping with the College’s and Departmental Unit Evaluation Plans. Service includes attending department and college meetings, as well as participating in various University committees at different levels.
All faculty are expected to actively participate in curriculum development, assessment of student learning and to engage in effective teaching including teaching practices and interactions with student with emphasis on student retention and a culture of belonging.
The expected salary upon hire for an Assistant Professor of Mathematics (Statistics) is $82,549. In addition to salary, the university offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, life and disability insurance and retirement. Required Qualifications
- PhD in Statistics or equivalent is required at the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching all levels of Statistics
coursework. - Demonstrated potential for excellence in innovative research and scholarly
Activities in Statistics. - Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive of the needs including universal access of our students, faculty, staff and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching and/or research expertise in Mathematics outside of Statistics.
- Experience in teaching college level courses as instructor of record.
