Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead our organization towards achieving its mission and strategic goals. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in leadership, operations & Employee management, and business development, with a proven track record of driving process improvement and fostering a culture of excellence.
ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Responsible for efficient and effective daily operations.
Managing shelter personnel including hiring, training, evaluating, providing discipline and terminating personnel. For positions requiring licensing or certification, ensuring hired individuals achieve and maintain appropriate credentials.
Serve as a liaison between HAHS STAFF members and Board of Directors.
Prepare and manage shelter budget in collaboration with Treasurer and Board of Directors.
Research, implement and evaluate progressive animal sheltering and welfare best practice, protocols, procedures and programs, including but not limited to, those addressing cleaning protocols, behavioral training and enrichment, intake and adoptions procedures and community engagement.
In collaboration with the Lead Shelter Veterinarian, ensure appropriate and responsible management of physical welfare of all animals under the care of HAHS including medical euthanasia decisions.
Maintain and enforce all board approved protocols and procedures.
Attend Board meetings and other HAHS Functions (Events, fundraisers, etc) as requested by the Board of Directors.
Provide oversight and support for the HAHS volunteer and foster care programs.
Ensure appropriate use of shelter equipment and software, including training for staff members to use PetPoint.
Oversee the operation of the HAHS Pet Cemetery and Cremation Services
Serve as the official spokesperson for HAHS.
Manage Dog Control Officer Contracts with government jurisdictions.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements including those provided for in the NYS Agriculture and Markets Law.
Be available for emergency contact after hours - as needed.
Other duties assigned as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES
Acts in supervisory capacity to all HAHS Staff.
Responsible for hiring, supervising, annual reviews, disciplinary actions and terminations of HAHS Personnel.

Communication and Contact: The Executive Director communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing, with superiors, colleagues and individuals inside and out of the Hornell Area Humane Society and has tact and exceptional communication and customer service skills.
Attendance and Dependability: The Executive Director can be depended upon to report to work at the scheduled time, is seldom absent from work and can be depended upon to stay until completing daily responsibilities of the position . This position requires an individual who can work independently and consistently meet deadlines This position will require work on evenings and weekends at times. Some travel is required.
Relationships with others: The Executive Director works effectively and relates well with others, including superiors, colleagues and individuals inside and outside of the Hornell Area Humane Society. Must exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working relationships. This individual will be responsible for the overall culture and working environment of HAHS.
Education and /or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in related field is desired Minimum of three years management experience required
Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules operating and maintenance manuals, as well as policies and procedures. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence Ability to speak effectively with employees and volunteers of this organization.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using common whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, licenses, Registrations: None Required Animal related licenses or certifications is a plus ( IE. Behavior and training, veterinary or managerial license or certifications are recommended.

Walking outdoors in all types of weather to other buildings or location on shelter grounds will be required

Pay: $60,400.00 - $65,000.00 per year
